After intense speculation surrounding Bulgarian hitmar Dimitar Berbatov, Tottenham manager Juande Ramos has effectively told the media that he will allow Berbatov to leave should he want to.

Berbatov shot to stardom when he moved from Bayer Leverkuson, making a stunning impact on the Premiership.

However, a steep decline in form has seen the fans express their anger at Berbatov, calling him a "flash player".

"I’ve spoken to him many times and know exactly what he wants," Ramos said.

"We have to cover our backs in case the player decides to leave and we have to have options to replace him."

Ramos added: "I would obviously like him to stay here but we don’t know how future negotiations will go so it is something I cannot guarantee.

"If there are offers coming in we will see if they convince the club and the player as well.

"What we want is for the player to be happy and enjoy his football. The player has the key to this and it is up to him at the end of the day.

"If that happened I’m sure the club would prefer to have the money because with the money they would be able to sign the players necessary.

"They would be able to look on the market for appropriate players."

"Of course there are great players in Europe that can do just as well as Berbatov." he added.

Berbatov has been linked strongly with a host of clubs, including European giants Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool. The speculation has not been one-way, with Eto’o and David Villa seen by Ramos as possible replacements for the Bulgarian.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez told his club’s official website that he will be fielding a strong team for the trip to White Hart Lane (pictured) to tackle Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday afternoon as he bids to end the season on a high.

"From our point of view it’s important to end the season with a win," he told the Liverpool FC Official website .

"With us playing one game a week of late it’s easy for me to pick a strong side and that will be the idea this weekend as well.

"We can reach 76 points with a victory and that’s not a bad total, although clearly we need more in the future if we want to win the title." he added.

Former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat admitted today that he was close to making a shock return to Ibrox before the ill-fated appointment of Paul Le Guen back in 2006.

"There was a period when there was something wrong at Rangers, when things were not going the right way at the club," Advocaat told the Daily Record .

"There were some rumours about me coming back then and I was not against it. But they decided to take another road.

"So many things were happening and I was thinking, ‘Well, why not?’ It was four years, five years since I had been at Ibrox.

"I spoke to David. He phoned me - or maybe I phoned him. But they took another decision. They didn’t take me.

"It was only going to be for an interim period. That was nearly four years ago.

"And happily for me, it didn’t work out because then I got the job with South Korea which was an incredible experience."

Peter Crouch looks to join Harry Kewell in leaving liverpool this summer.

Although Harry Kewell is leaving due to a contract dispute over lower wages, Rafael Benitez has announced that he would let Peter Crouch leave the club, but not for less than £15million.

Portsmouth have been keen on the player for a while now, who’s sole reason for leaving the club is the lack of first team football.

The speculation over Crouch’s future was fuelled by the arrival of youngster Fernando Torres, furthermore from his electric start in the Premier League.

With Andriy Voronin, Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel all competing for places too, it may be time for the ex Southampton striker to move on if he is to attain regular first time football and stay in competition for a place in the new England squad under Fabio Capello.

Keane, the ex Manchester United captain said: "£50million wouldn’t get you into the top four, nowhere near it." Alongside FIFA arguing that the dominance of English sides in this years Champions League competition is down to the influx of foreign players, it is looking ever more likely that Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are to remain at the top of the league for many years to come.

The financial gain of the Champions League is fuelling the continuing spend of these ‘top four’ clubs, leaving all the other clubs behind, something that FIFA may be looking to change sooner rather than later if the rest of Europe’s top half table clubs speak out.

Manager Juande Ramos has admitted that he cannot persuade the striker to stay and has to make plans for a Tottenham squad without him.

Ramos has even stated his preference for cash over a player swap, possibly due to the speculation over their rumoured Barcelona target, Samuel Eto’o.

Berbatov has taken the Premier League by storm since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2006 and whilst Ramos admits he will be difficult to replace, it’s not impossible.
